SC rejects Yakub Memon’s petition

A three-judge bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra, Prafulla C. Pant and Amitava Roy of Supreme Court has rejected the petition of Yakub Memon seeking stay and conversion of his capital punishment into life term.

The bench opined that his case has been dealt very fairly without any bias and he was given enough chances to prove his innocence, but fails. Hence, the apex court bench rejects his petition thus confirmed his death sentence.

President Pranab Mukharjee has to take a decision on his mercy petition yet. Another mercy petition is also said to be in pending with Maharashtra Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao. But, there were reports that he also rejected it long back. So, Yakub Memon’s life now is in the hands of President of India. If he too rejects his petition, Yakub will be hanged tomorrow early morning at Nagpur Central jail.
