Salary of Govt employees hiked by 23%

 

The Union Government has approved the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. They have approved a 23.6 percent increase in government employees' overall pay - basic pay plus allowances as recommended. A total of 98 lakh employees of which 47 lakh central government employees and 52 lakh pensioners will stand to benefit from the decision.

 

The increase in the basic pay is 14.27 per cent and with the hike proposed in allowances, the rise in remunerations comes to 23.6 per cent.  The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The salary hike will be effective from January 1, 2016. Around Rs 70,000 crore has been provisioned in the Union Budget 2016-17 for the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission for government employees.
