HL Dattu sworn in Chief Justice of India

 

H Lakshmi Narayana Swamy Dattu takes oath as 42nd Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Sunday in a simple function held in Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Sunday, following the retirement of Justice RM Lodha on September 27th. HL Dattu will continue in his post till 2015, December 2nd. He was born in Handhikal, Karnataka in 1950. He begins his professions career as lawyer from 1975 and got his first promotion as Karnataka High Court Judge in 1995. Later, he served as Chief Justice of Kerala and Chattisgarh High Courts. He got appointed as Supreme Court Judge in 2007 and occupies this top position now. After taking oath as CJI, speaking to media he said that he would like to work like a common man and will try to speed-up the judgment process. He is the one, who handled all the petitions filed opposing bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh state.
