Controversy over Sachin’s Bharat Ratna

Unfortunately, controversy erupts over declaring India’s highest award Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar, who recently retires from cricket. An RTI activist Devasish Bhattacharya wrote a letter to Election Commission complaining about the timing of announcement of the award. He alleges that declaring Bharat Ratna to Sachin during elections in five state are in progress is violation of election code of conduct, as it may influence Sachin's fans and cricket lovers to vote in favor Congress party for honoring him with such a highest award. He questioned the timing of the award.

EC endorses his complaint and it will discuss about this point with legal experts before taking any decision. A JD (U) party leader also flays Congress for the timing of the award. If, EC opines that it is violation of election code of conduct, then it will be not only embarrassing to Congress and UPA government but also to Little Master Sachin Tendulkar.
