BJP, Shivsena to continue alliance in Maharashtra

It seems the seat sharing issue between BJP and Shivsena parties has reached its climax today as leaders of both parties now agreeing that they shouldn’t snap their two and half decades alliance merely for a handful of MLA seats. So, both parties have shown some flexibility on their stand and likely to settle for 130 for BJP and 158 seats for Shivsena out of 288 seats.

However, the ruling Congress and NCP alliance couldn’t sort out their seat sharing issues until now. Congress party is offering 50 percent seats to NCP, but it is not ready to take the bait. NCP is insisting for lion’s share in the seats. It is also dreaming to grab the steering from its alliance partner and wants it to sit in the back seat. They have to strike a deal on seat sharing otherwise BJP-Shivsena alliance will clinch power from them.

Even if they join hands they have to strive very hard to retain power in Maharashtra, because BJP president Amit Shah, who helped the party to win in general elections, is determined to clinch power from them at any cost in these elections. Moreover, if Congress fails to retain its power, it will be another blow in ribs to its high command, especially to its vice president Rahul Gandhi.
